The challenge
Four 2,000 kVA generators, 8,000 kVA of standby power in total, had to run inside the campus they serve. On one side, flight simulators that are vibration-sensitive; on the other, offices that are noise-sensitive. There was no remote corner to hide the plant in: the acoustic design had to contain the problem at its source.
The objective
Contain airborne noise and structure-borne vibration from the installation to levels compatible with adjacent occupied and technical space, with the gensets operating at duty.

The solution
The room was designed as a complete acoustic system around the genset schedule and its airflow requirements: composite wall assemblies to contain airborne noise, intake and exhaust silencing sized to the airflow the machines demand, and anti-vibration mounting to break the structural path toward the simulators.
Why it matters
Each element was dimensioned against the actual equipment, because generator rooms fail when the acoustics and the cooling requirements are designed by different people.
Scope delivered
Acoustic design of the generator room housing four 2,000 kVA gensets, 8,000 kVA of standby power in total: composite wall assemblies, intake and exhaust silencing sized to the airflow the machines demand, and anti-vibration mounting to break the structural path toward the flight simulators. Every element was dimensioned against the installed equipment rather than a generic genset.
